Familial scimitar syndrome: three-dimensional visualization of anomalous pulmonary vein in young sisters.

چکیده
Case 1 A 27-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for further evaluation of an abnormal shadow in the right lower lung field on chest x-ray (Figure 1). She was asymptomatic. The 3D CT clearly demonstrated an abnormal pulmonary vein that drained into the suprahepatic inferior vena cava (Figure 2). Cardiac catheterization showed a mean pulmonary artery pressure of 15 mm Hg, a pulmonary/systemic flow ratio of 1.86, and a left-to-right shunt ratio of 46%. Corrective surgery was not performed because of her lack of symptoms and relatively low shunt ratio.

متن کاملThree-dimensional image reconstruction of partial anomalous pulmonary venous return to the superior vena cava.
A case of a rare partial anomalous pulmonary venous return of the right upper lobe into the superior vena cava is reported. Multiple three-dimensional image reconstructions in association with spiral CT are used in the aim of clarifying this abnormality of pulmonary venous drainage.
متن کاملLate presentation and successful treatment of classical scimitar syndrome
Scimitar syndrome is a form of partial anomalous pulmonary venous drainage that is dramatically visible on plain chest radiography (CXR). In these individuals the entire venous drainage from the right lung enters a single anomalous large vein that descends to the inferior vena cava. This descending vein is visible on CXR as a curvilinear density along the right heart border and resembles the cu...
متن کاملPartial Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return: Scimitar Vein
Scimitar syndrome is a rare association of congenital cardiopulmonary anomalies characterized by partial anomalous pulmonary venous return, in which an abnormal right pulmonary vein drains into the inferior vena cava. This case exemplifies the role of transesophageal echocardiography in perioperative management and surgical decision-making.

A 51-year-old woman, presenting with increasing dyspnoea on exertion was admitted for surgery of a right sided partial anomalous pulmonary venous return. Contrast enhanced electron-beam tomography (EBT) presented a hypoplastic right lower lobe and confirmed the diagnosis of a so-called scimitar syndrome. Surgery consisted of creation of an atrial septal defect, transposition of the anomalous ve...
